More than a month after Superstorm Sandy made its way through the Northeast and devastated the Far Rockaway section of New York City, the working-class community remains in dire need of supplies as it continues to rebuild and recover. Volunteers have swooped in to distribute food and necessities and New York Knicks center Tyson Chandler and his wife Kimberly are among those fundraising to help the Rockaways get back on its feet.

After a firsthand look at the situation in the area on Nov. 11, the couple created Rebound 4 Rockaway, a campaign collaborating with Hillsong NYC Church that has been bringing attention, asking for donations and collecting items like food, water and cleaning products for residents to fix their homes.

"You see the people obviously need help and it's just good to be able to come out and help," Chandler says in a video he posted on his site about the project. "You know they're going through a lot of tough things right now. We all just got to come together and do what we can to play our part."

A registry on Diapers.com lists items like bottles, baby food, diapers and other necessities that will be delivered to the Action Community Center in Far Rockaway for distribution.

But it isn't only baby essentials that are needed, says Kimberly. "The daily needs including cleaning supplies, personal hygiene, down to clothing, blankets, shoes, all of the above," she says of the things the group is collecting. "Every quintessential everyday need, that's what they're struggling with."
