Black Unemployment Ticked Up in August
The unemployment rate among African-Americans was at 9.5 percent for August 2015, according to a report released Friday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The Black jobless rate ticked up .4 percentage points from the previous month. The rate is almost double the national unemployment rate, which is 5.1 percent, its lowest in the last seven years.
African-American teens between 16-19 years old have an unemployment rate of 31.3 percent. Black women over 20 are unemployed at 8.1 percent and Black men over 20 are unemployed at 9.2 percent.
Employers added 173K jobs in August. Economists suspect that the Federal Reserve, which meets in two weeks, will decide whether to raise interest rates based on this month's report.
