White Teen Puts Noose Around Black Boy's Neck To ‘See How Many Blacks He Could Do It To’
A white, male, teen from Louisiana was arrested after reportedly putting a noose around a Black 16-year-old boy’s neck while at school.
The unidentified juvenile has been charged with a hate crime and simple battery, reported the Monroe Free Press. The Ouachita Parish student was booked in the Green Oaks Juvenile Detention Center, yet has since been released on bond.
Details of the incident were provided by the victim’s mother, who published an anonymous statement to The Monroe Free Press.
In her statement, she said the white West Ouachita High School student approached her son on Sept. 14 and hung a noose around his neck. When a teacher intervened and asked the white student why he did it, he reportedly replied that “I just wanted to see how many blacks I could do it to.
According to the mother's statement, the white teen was initially suspended for 10 days until she pressed charges.
Superintendent Don Coker said the teacher and administration handled the issue immediately. The student resource officer and parents were notified, and students were questioned at the school that day.
Coker said the white student was disciplined, but he can't discuss the nature of the punishment because of student privacy.
Ouachita NAACP President Ambrose Douzart said has released a statement encouraging students to treat each other with respect.
"Our message to the kids in the school system is to ask them to do better, to be loving and kind to their classmates," Douzart said.
