South Carolina Rep. James Clyburn Files To Run For 16th House Term

Clyburn said he wants to make South Carolina, alongside the rest of the nation, “accessible and affordable for all.”

House Majority Whip James Clyburn  is running for 16th term as Congressional representative for South Carolina.

In a statement regarding his reelection bid, Clyburn, 81, and the most decorated Democratic House representative, said he wanted to concentrate on “making America’s greatness itself accessible and affordable for all,” The Hill reported.

“My vision for South Carolina and for this country — you’re going to see it on billboards throughout the district — simply this: ‘Making America’s greatness itself accessible and affordable for all,’ ” Clyburn said, according to Charleston station  WCSC.

Alongside Clyburn's campaign, other prominent Democratic House Reps. like House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California and House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer of Maryland also plan to run for reelection.

Despite her pledge in 2018 to retire as Speaker, Pelosi plans on continuing her rank in November, The Hill reported. Hoyer filed for reelection a month later, according to the Capital Gazette.

In a midterm where Republicans are confident in seizing the House, in which the GOP only needs to secure five seats, 31 House Democrats have said they are not running for reelection, while 14 House Republicans are not running for reelection.
