65th Annual Grammy Awards: Viola Davis Is Officially An 'EGOT'

The actress becomes the fourth Black person to win an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony.

On Sunday (Feb. 5), Viola Davis became one of three Black women in history to achieve EGOT status with her Grammy win. The 57-year-old actress earned her first Grammy for her captivating narration of her memoir "Finding Me" during the 65th Annual Grammy Awards Premiere Ceremony.

“It has just been such a journey," Davis said while accepting the award. "I just EGOT!”

Davis has already made a significant impact in the entertainment industry, previously winning an Oscar, two Tony Awards, and an Emmy. This latest accomplishment only adds to her already impressive list of achievements.

During her acceptance speech on Sunday, Davis expressed her gratitude for this latest recognition and the impact it has had on her. She stated, “Oh my God, I wrote this book to honor the 6-year-old Viola, to honor her, to honor her life, her joy, her trauma, her everything.” 

Davis went on to explain that she wanted to create a work that would serve as a tribute to her younger self and to all the experiences she has gone through in life.
