Report: John Legend Performs at Hotel Despite Boycott

Source says singer accepted controversial invite for $300,000.

A wedding singer side hustle may have left a smudge on John Legend's reputation.

According to an unnamed source, the "Glory" singer performed recently at the Hotel Bel-Air, just months after denouncing the venue's owner, the Sultan of Brunei, for passing laws that allow for the stoning death of homosexuals looking to marry, and allow girls as young as 13 to be raped by their husbands.

“These policies, which among other things could permit women and LGBT Bruneians to be stoned to death, are heinous and certainly don't represent John's values," Legend's rep said in February, when he backed out of an event at the hotel celebrating his Los Angeles Confidential magazine cover.

Word is, in May however, Legend changed his mind. Price tag: $300,000.

Instagram accounts reportedly confirm that he sang a two-song set (including his hit "All of Me") at the ceremony for the daughter of a well known L.A. realtor (commercial space, big money). None of it has been copped to by Legend or the hotel.

"We never comment on private events," a rep for the venue told Billboard. Legend hasn't commented on the nuptials as of press time either. He's most focused on his most recent show, the SeriesFest in Denver, where he broke down in tears amid the Charleston Massacre tragedy.

"I will continue to work and hope for something better, but I'm not especially optimistic right now," he wrote.
