Dionne Warwick and Son Damon Reveal the One Tweet He Wishes She Didn't Post

The R&B legend is also a queen on social media.

Dionne Warwick joined Twitter in 2012, but only in the last five or so years did she become a star in the Twitterverse.

In fact, in 2021, Newark’s Hahne & Co. building which is the site of the old department store where Warwick used to shop for blouses when she was younger, presented an entire show featuring paintings, installations, collages, video and sculpture inspired by some of the Grammy winner’s most notable tweets, according to The New York Post.

But, her son Damon says that her Twitter account has occasionally made him panic.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the music producer sat down with his mom and said without pause that the one tweet that he wished she hadn't posted was "the first one" directed at Chance the Rapper (and minutes later The Weeknd) that sent everyone into a frenzy.

On Dec. 5, 2020, Warwick tweeted, "Hi, @chancetherapper. If you are very obviously a rapper why did you put it in your stage name? I cannot stop thinking about this." Just minutes later, Warwick went after The Weeknd with, "The Weeknd is next. Why? It's not even spelled correctly? @theweeknd."

The tweets instantly went viral catching the attention of both stars who were both flattered that Warwick even knew who they were.

"Mom, I got woken up at four in the morning," Damon tells Warwick in ET's "Spilling the E-Tea." "Marcus calls me and says, 'Man, what's going on with your mom?' And firstly I think, 'What did my mom do? What's going on?' He's mad: 'Check Twitter.' And I'm like, 'Twitter? I haven't used this app in years.' So I had to redownload Twitter and the tweet to Chance the Rapper."

"We all know you say what you feel, and I'm glad it went the way it did," Damon added.

The mother-son duo was doing the interview ahead of Warwick's newest project, a gospel album called Songs of Inspiration on which they have a duet. Damon also worked with his mother when she and Dolly Parton worked on their duet, "Peace Like a River."

As for her infamous tweets, Warwick and Chance the Rapper would go on to collaborate in a duet nearly a year later with "Nothing's Impossible."

"I developed a friendship. We did a duet," Warwick said. "And he still hasn't answered me!"

Most recently, following the announcement that Elon Musk is stepping down as the CEO of Twitter, Warwick shared that she is ready to take on the job.

In a hilarious reply, former NBA player and sports broadcaster Rex Chapman warned Warwick not to take the gig with one of her own song titles writing, "DON'T DO IT, DIONNE! Walk on by."
