Tyrese in Custody After Failing to Pay Child Support
Tyrese Gibson is in custody after failing to pay his court-ordered child support. The "1992" star's arrest comes just one day after he warned his supporters that he might be detained amid his legal battle with ex-wife Samantha Lee.
According to TMZ, who broke the news, the 45-year-old actor was held in contempt of court, handcuffed, and escorted out of the Fulton County courtroom on Monday (Sept. 9) after failing to pay the $10,000 child support fee ordered by Judge Kevin M. Farmer in April 2023.
The outlet reported that the "Black and Blue" actor could avoid jail time if he pays $73,000—which includes $7,500 for Samantha's attorney fees.
Tyrese had predicted his arrest in a since-deleted Instagram post uploaded on Sunday (Sept. 8). In the caption, the "Baby Boy" star accused his ex-wife's legal team of plotting against him and claimed that her lawyers, Adam Gleklen and William Alexander, "are besties" with Judge Farmer.
In a 15-minute video posted on his Instagram, Gibson explained that while he doesn't see the situation as a "man versus woman" issue, he does feel his gender is influencing the court proceedings.
"When you were born a man, you go into a courtroom and you understand clearly that there is a preset menu that says, 'You were born a man, f—k you.' That's what the preset menu says," Gibson stated on IG.
The outlet noted that the actor plans to pay the $73,000 balance and will be released at some point.
Tyrese and Lee married in 2017, and a year later, they welcomed their daughter, Soraya. The couple announced their separation and divorce in December 2020.
