Janet Jackson’s Classic 1989 Song ‘Rhythm Nation’ Causes Laptops To Crash
Janet Jackson has made some incredible music over the years, but apparently her 1989 hit “Rhythm Nation” is so powerful that it causes laptops to crash.
Miss Jackson posted a viral video on her Instagram of several laptops crashing to her iconic song:
Microsoft’s principal software engineer, Raymond Chen, explained the phenomenon: “The song contained one of the natural resonant frequencies for the model of 5400 rpm laptop hard drives that they [an unnamed major manufacturer] and other[s] used.”
He also added, “The manufacturer worked around the problem by adding a custom filter in the audio pipeline that detected and removed the offending frequencies during audio playback.”
Sounds like all is well now for laptop and Rhythm Nation, but we don’t recommend testing on your own personal device.
