Shaquille O’Neal Faces Backlash Over Comments on Angel Reese's Outfit During Podcast Appearance
Shaquille O’Neal has been facing backlash following remarks he made about Angel Reese’s outfit during a recent episode of her podcast, “Unapologetically Angel.”
In the Oct. 24 episode, the former NBA player and Reese discussed the idea of lowered rims in the WNBA. O’Neal talked about picturing Reese, a forward for the Chicago Sky, dunking in the shorts she wore during her recent appearance at a “Wild 'N Out” live tour stop in Chicago.
“Imagine you in the same little shorts you had on at the Wild 'N Out show dunking. You know how many T-shirts you’re gonna sell?” the 52-year-old said. The WNBA star then responded by rolling her eyes and saying, "Oh my god," while trying to move the conversation forward. O’Neal continued, “Them same little shorts you had on at Wild 'N Out…” as Reese attempted to end the topic by saying, "Okay. Alright. Alright. Alright. Alright."
Before finally moving on, O’Neal added that he wouldn’t buy one of the theoretical T-shirts himself but told Reese, “You’re not beautiful or good-looking — you are gorgeous. There’s a lot of gorgeous women in the WNBA.” See the related post below.
After watching the episode, many people took to the internet to criticize O’Neal’s comments, assuming Reese was visibly uncomfortable. Reese spoke highly of O’Neal, calling him “a father figure” in a January interview with USA Today. “He’s super inspiring to me. He’s so genuine; he’s been there for me through tough times,” she said. He just gets it, and there’s not a more perfect person for me to be tight with.”
The 22-year-old continued, “We have fun, and if I need anything, he would help me… and he would do that even if I never played basketball again. He doesn’t care about me as a player, he cares about me as a person.”
