“We need more,” said Pep. ”It's mind-baffling to us to this day. We're like, 'Where's some females?'"
Gone are the years when female rap was ripe with a diverse crop of MCs like Lil Kim, Foxy Brown, Lauryn Hill, Eve, MC Lyte and Queen Latifah. Nowadays, Nicki Minaj and Iggy Azalea (even with all the lambasting) are the only chart-dominating names that “comes to mind,” said Salt.
“Maybe we have to get together the ladies and go find some girls and put them out there. I don’t know,” Salt said, with Pep speaking to the change in how female rappers are introduced. “The male rappers, they bring out the women,” she said. “That's a lot of them came from man camps.”
“It is true,” Salt agreed. “You almost need that stamp of approval.”
