'Shameful': Twitter Reacts to 'Unqualified Billionaire' Betsy DeVos Being Confirmed as New Secretary of Education
Despite protest and criticism, billionaire and known opponent to the public school system Betsy DeVos has been confirmed as the new Secretary of Education. Two Republican senators crossed the bitter partisan lines to try and deny her approval, leading to a 50-50 tie within the Senate and leaving the tie-breaking vote to Vice President Mike Pence. The vote made history as the first time a vice president has had to invoke his privilege as President of the Senate to confirm a cabinet nominee.
DeVos's confirmation leaves educators, students and citizens by-and-large with an unsure future. Many have taken to Twitter to voice their beliefs that this is just another example of Donald Trump's presidency failing the American people.
While liberal voters and elected officials have tried to combat everything the Trump administration throws at them, it was always expected that some things would prove too great to overcome.
Sadly, for America's citizens still too young to vote, DeVos's confirmation could prove incredibly destructive.
The anger towards Republicans and Mike Pence was real:
