R. Kelly Associate Being Investigated For Gun Threat That Shut Down 'Surviving R. Kelly' Screening

He's also accused of threatening one of the victim's parents.

R. Kelly isn't the only person in his camp being investigated after the debut of Lifetime's Surviving R. Kelly docu-series.

A business associate of the disgraced crooner is reportedly being investigated for allegedly calling in the gun threat that shut down Lifetime's December 2018 Surviving R. Kelly screening.

  • Police officials reportedly tracked the phone number back to R. Kelly's hometown of Chicago.

According to TMZ, Donnel Russell, an alleged business associate of the singer, has been listed as a person of interest in the incident.

  • Back in December, someone called the New York venue where the screening was being held and warned that someone in the audience would begin shooting if the screening continued.

The screening was immediately evacuated and many members of the press that were present took to social media breaking news of the threat.

  • This isn't the first R. Kelly-related charge Russell has allegedly been investigated for.

Per TMZ, one of the parents of the women accused of being held captive by the singer filed a police report against Don Russell. Joycelyn Savage's father reportedly went to the police after he received a series of threatening text messages from a man named Don Russell right before the series aired.

The NYPD has reportedly failed to make direct contact with Donnel Russell.
