September 13, 2011 marks 15 years since the death of Tupac Shakur, and to observe the anniversary, XXL magazine is dedicating its upcoming issue to the memory of the fallen rapper.
In the publication’s September issue, on stands August 16, readers will find interviews with Tupac's close friends and family, including his ex-wife, biological father and first manager.
“[Tupac] cared for people,” says Pac's biological Dad, Bill Garland. “That was his main thing. He really cared for people. I think that’s why he would get so upset when people tried to question his commitment, his love for Black women or Black men. The East Coast/West Coast, you know, that’s a fabrication. I don’t have to begin to tell you that. So when that was questioned, it bothered him. Because he would give his heart or soul."
The magazine will also feature tributes to Tupac from 62 living rappers and an examination of recent evidence into his non-fatal 1994 shooting.
Tupac, who has sold over 75 million albums worldwide, was the victim of a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas on September 6, 1996. The firebrand rap star succumbed to his injuries seven days later. He was only 25 years old.
