Bangladesh Says Lil Wayne's New Single Was Initially for T.I.
Lil Wayne’s first post-Rikers release, “6’7”" featuring Corey Gunz, has the rapper’s fans salivating for more. But according to its producer Bangladesh, the track almost never happened.
The Atlanta-based beatmaker knew Weezy would be a perfect match for the beat when he made it this past summer. But Bangladesh was hesitant to submit it to the Young Money boss since he’d yet to be paid royalties for producing 2008’s smash “A Milli.”
“Due to the situation and the circumstances of the Cash Money situation, I really wasn’t thinking about Wayne at that moment,” Bang told BET.com. “I just knew that the beat was a big track and I couldn’t at the time think of nobody that could swag this out like that or was worthy enough of this beat really.”
Though he couldn’t fathom another MC doing his track justice, Bang took a chance and sent the instrumental to Gee Roberson, CEO of Hip Hop Since 1978, Wayne’s management company, who's also president of the rap division at Atlantic Records, home to MCs like T.I., B.o.B, Maino and Lupe Fiasco, to name a few.
“I was actually sending the beat to Gee for T.I.,” he revealed. “I mean, not that I think T.I. would sound good on the beat, they were just looking for a single and somebody said, ‘Man, send that to Gee. T.I. need something.‘
“I already dealt with T.I. I know how T.I. is. I knew he wouldn’t really be rocking this beat right there, so I sent it anyway,” he added. “And Gee just hit back talking about Wayne. ‘Man, Wayne’ll kill this, Wayne’ll kill this,’ so I had to really see if I wanted to do it or not. But they’ve been communicating, they’ve been reaching out.”
Presently billed as the first single off Wayne’s “Tha Carter IV,” "6’7” could be the first of several Weezy/Bang collabos in the near future. He’s been assured that his royalties will be paid out, and according to Bang, Roberson offered him a 10-song deal.
“I just say that to say that, dude f***s with me,” Bang noted. “Obviously, I wouldn’t have his next single if it was any problem. And you know he offered me something else on the side, so we can move on and make history.”
