It was already a fact that Whitney Houston’s angelic voice was going to leave an unforgettable imprint in the world. With each album release, Houston showcased a level of talent that set her apart from other female vocalists at the time. Her 1985 debut album Whitney Houston transitioned her from a gospel singer to an international pop star with her Grammy Award-winning hit “Saving All My Love for You.”

By the time Houston released her second album Whitney in 1987, it garnered four more No. 1s and earned Houston her second Grammy. But it wasn’t until her 1992 hit "I Will Always Love You” that Houston became an official icon in the music industry. On Dec. 29, 1992, "I Will Always Love You" was certified Gold, Platinum and Triple Platinum with sales of more than 3 million units.

Success from the song not only garnered attention from the music world, but it was also featured on the The Bodyguard soundtrack, an award-winning film starring Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner. The album became the best-selling soundtrack of all time, selling 12 million units worldwide.
