The man who brutally stabbed Morgan Freeman's step-granddaughter, E'Dena Hines, to death just dodged a murder conviction but is still facing a hefty prison sentence.

According to TMZ, while Lamar Davenport, Hines' boyfriend at the time, just dodged a murder conviction, he was still charged with manslaughter and now faces up to 25 years in prison.

The site reports that the judge made the decision on Monday in New York City.

Davenport, who stabbed Hines a staggering 25 times outside of their apartment, was acquitted of second degree murder. His attorney claimed he was high on PCP during the time of the tragic incident where he repeatedly stabbed Hines while yelling, "I love you. I always loved you. God would have wanted this."

Interestingly enough, the judge agreed that Davenport was not acting out of malice, but was just under the influence of drugs.

Addressing his step-granddaughter's death, Morgan said, "Her star will continue to shine bright in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. May she rest in peace."
