Look: 'All Talk' And 'No Action', Donald Trump Goes After Civil Rights Leader John Lewis And People Are Fuming
Donald Trump’s tweeted some pretty deplorable statements, however when it comes to ones that affect race relations, this could be a new low, even for him.
Today (January 14), the president-elect kicked off the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend by criticizing US Representative and civil rights leader John Lewis after he claimed that Trump’s election was the product of Russian hacking and therefore illegitimate.
Lewis, who marched along side King at the 1963 March On Washington, told Meet The Press that the Russian’s cyber activity gave Trump the election. “I think the Russians participated in helping this man get elected and they helped destroy the candidacy of Hillary Clinton,” Lewis said. “I don’t plan to attend the inauguration.”
This of course didn’t sit well with The Donald, who instead of saying he disagrees with Lewis, decided to denigrate the decorated and long time equal rights warrior.
“Congressman John Lewis should spend more time on fixing and helping his district, which is in horrible shape and falling apart (not to mention crime infested) rather than falsely complaining about the election results,” he tweeted. “All talk, talk, talk - no action or results. Sad!”
All talk and no results? Clearly Trump doesn’t know Lewis’ history. John Lewis helped fight for the Fair Housing Act of 1968 and the 1964 Voting Rights Act. He was also arrested numerous times for standing up for equal rights.
Twitter decided to scold Trump for his comments. See the best ones below.
