Megan Thee Stallion Samples Tupac For New Single, ‘B.I.T.C.H.’

The single will be on Megan Thee Stallion’s upcoming debut album, which is rumored to be titled "Suga."

Megan Thee Stallion helped usher in the new female-dominated era of hip-hop in 2019 when the Houston rapper released her award-winning Fever mixtape.

  • Megan’s name beamed throughout the industry, from feature popularity, to movie soundtrack hits for Queen & Slim and Birds of Prey, to a robust music festival circuit run, and even a delivering NPR Tiny Desk appearance. In December of 2019, the 24-year-old also confirmed that she was putting the finishing touches on her debut studio album. In a surprise reveal for her Hotties, she further revealed via Associated Press that the project will mark the formal introduction of her new alter-ego, Suga — which is also rumored to be project’s title.

  • Ahead of her debut album’s release, Megan dropped off her first solo single of the year, titled “B.I.T.C.H.,” on Thursday (Jan. 24). The H-Town star previously teased that the track was on its way last week after she posted an Instagram video of herself rapping part of the song poolside. She alerted fans that the song was out with a quick announcement via Twitter at midnight.

  • The single sampled one of Tupac’s standout tracks, “Rather Be Ya N**ga,” from the late rap icon’s acclaimed 1996 album, All Eyez on Me. Megan starts the record off with a strong refusal to dilute her raw and authentic realness for any potential lover. Instead, she’d rather be dubbed a “B.I.T.C.H.” than be stressed over any man because, as she puts it in the chorus, “that's what you gon' call me when I'm trippin’ anyway.”

As UPROXX further noted, the song’s instrumentals also pulled from funk icon Bootsy Collins’ 1976 classic “I’d Rather Be With You” along with “I’d Rather Bang Screw” from Houston rappers Big Hawk, Big Cease and Kyle Lee

Although a release date still hasn’t been announced for the album, 2020 is already shaping up to be a promising year for Megan Thee Stallion if fan reception to her new single is anything to go by.
