The New York Times was more than a hot topic on the talk show The View today when co-host Whoopi Golgberg blasted the respected newspaper for omitting her from an Oscar story.

The Times’ Sunday story discussed both the lack of racial diversity at this year’s Academy Awards—the absence of Black films, especially—and African-Americans who’ve won Oscars in the past. Only, the piece failed to count Whoopi among the recipients.

"I have to tell you, it hurt me terribly," commented Whoopi, who’d also flashed her beloved gold statue which she won in 1990 for the film Ghost. Goldberg was the first Black actress to win the award since Hattie McDaniels won in 1939 (best supporting actress) for Gone With the Wind.

During yesterday's show, Goldberg jumped on the omission immediately after Barbara Walters raised the topic and Elisabeth Hasselbeck announced that she'd be stopping her subscription until she sees "some more factual information coming across."

Goldberg further criticized the film critics Manohla Dargis and A.O. Scott, who wrote the piece, saying that the were "sloppy in your work, and you're supposed to be better than this."

Leaving her out of the story wasn’t the writers’ only mistake. The article reports that seven black actors had been awarded the trophy in the previous 73 years. Actually, there are 12 African-American actors who’ve won Oscars, not including those—like Issac Hayes and Three 6 Mafia—who’ve received Academy Awards for music.
