Robin Thede Comments On Having a Stripper In ‘A Black Lady Sketch Show’ Writer's Room
Robin Thede, the creator of A Black Lady Sketch Show, is taking a moment to shine a light on the inclusion she brings into her writer's room, which includes a former stripper.
In a conversation with Page Six, Thede shared that the writer was an exotic dancer early in her life but is now an Emmy-nominated creator.
“Everybody didn’t know she was a stripper,” Thede said. “We have people from Harvard and Princeton with different stories so all that is valuable to me.”
Adding: “Harvard doesn’t mean sh*t to me. Strip clubs doesn’t mean sh*t to me. It’s all about experiences and that’s what matters to me.”
The HBO series returned for its third season on April 8 on HBO Max.
“We do this show with joy, we didn’t hurt people in the process. I really don’t like comedy that puts people down. So we always avoided that. Not that we don’t make edgy jokes but it’s always in a spirit of joy,” Thede explained.
With more than 40 celebrity guest stars including Ava Duvernay, Raven-Symoné, Wanda Sykes, Kyla Pratt, Michael Ealy, Vanessa Williams, Loni Love, Tommy Davidson and more, the six-episode series is more hilarious than ever before.
