Jay Z Squashes Debate on Whether to Take $500k or Lunch With Him
Jay-Z believes you’re better off taking $500K and buying his albums over lunch with him. During a recent interview, he explained to Gayle King that there's probably nothing he would tell someone seeking advice he hasn't already addressed in his music.
“You gotta take the money,” the 53-year-old industry mogul told the “CBS Morning” host in a new teaser clip of the two-part interview. “What I'mma say?”
King explained that many people felt the value of the potential “wisdom” they would receive from a sit down with the Brooklyn emcee would surpass the one-time $500K payday.
However, the billionaire businessman stated it wouldn’t be wise “Because you got all that in the music for $10.99.” adding, “That’s a bad deal. I wouldn’t tell you to cut a bad deal.”
He continued, “Take the $500,000. Go buy some albums and listen to the albums. It’s all there. If you piece it together and really listen to the music for the words, well, what it is, it's all there. Everything that I said was gonna happen happened. Everything that I said I wanted to do, I've done, and there’s the blueprint.”
“The blueprint — literally — to me and my life and my journey is there already,” he added, referencing the 2001 album.
The “4:44” joined King for a rare interview exclusive tour of "The Book of HOV" exhibit at the Brooklyn Public Library. The exhibition delves into the artist's extensive body of work, ranging from his original master recordings to his entrepreneurial ventures and initiatives aimed at reforming the criminal justice system.
