Harvard Rescinds Acceptances of Students for Sharing Memes Mocking Arousal From Child Abuse
Harvard University administrators chose to rescind the acceptances of 10 students from the incoming class of 2021 due to offensive memes they posted to a Facebook group called “Harvard Memes for Horny Bourgeois Teens,” reported the Harvard Crimson.
In the group, which was a separate group created from an official group for accepted students, memes were shared which mocked the Holocaust, discussed child abuse as “sexually arousing” and referred to hanging a Mexican child as “piñata time.”
Once the school was made aware of the group, administrators contacted students and asked they send each meme they contributed to the site. The students were also told their admission was under review and they should not plan to attend any admitted students activities or orientations on campus.
“The Admissions Committee was disappointed to learn that several students in a private group chat for the Class of 2021 were sending messages that contained offensive messages and graphics,” reads a copy of the admissions office’s email obtained by the Crimson. “As we understand you were among the members contributing such material to this chat, we are asking that you submit a statement by tomorrow at noon to explain your contributions and actions for discussion with the Admissions Committee.”
After the review, 10 students had their acceptances revoked.
