Anna Wintour politely pled the fifth when asked what she thought of Kanye's KW collection, but at least Vogue's editor-in-chief is giving the rapper some shine in the magazine’s pages.
Kanye makes his first ever appearance in the March 2012 issue of Vogue, posing shirtless in leather pants and beads alongside of his friend and Givenchy’s creative director Riccardo Tisci. The feature, called “Tisci’s Time,” was shot by Annie Leibovitz and also feature some of Tisci’s other muses, including (from left) Liv Tyler, Karolina Kurkova, Florence Welch, Liya Kebede.
Kanye regularly rocks Givenchy and it was once rumored that Tisci was helping him with his clothing line, although in the issue the Italian fashion designer makes no mention, but did recall working with Kanye and Jay-Z to create their “Watch the Throne” album art.
"I was a little bit scared,” admits Tisci, “Because I’m not an artist or graphic artist.” He finally agreed and was awed when a meeting segued into a jam session that involved Rihanna, Swizz Beatz and Pharrell Williams, all freely exchanging ideas “like a family giving opinions to each other,” remembers Tisci, “sharing — which is something that fashion is missing,” he adds plaintively.
Meanwhile, rumors spread that Kanye may be working on his own line for Topshop after he was spotted lunching with the U.K.-based retailer’s CEO Sir Phillip Green. The Daily Mirror claims they were “brainstorming” ideas and cites a "mole" who told them Kanye has been wanting to work with Sir Phillip for some time (although Sir Phillip Green played the rumors down and said the meeting was “just lunch” and Kanye’s just a friend of his son).
Either way, Kanye’s got a lot up his sleeves on the fashion front. He’s been making London Fashion Week appearances this week and is busy prepping a second women’s wear collection that he’ll show during Paris Fashion Week, March 6.
