Miguel's failed stunt, resulting in a fan suffering a possible brain injury, may have been avoided if the singer had listened to producers at the Billboard Music Awards, TMZ reports.
Sources close to the production say the singer approached producers just before the show and asked if he could attempt jumping over the crowd, but producers warned him not to attempt the risky move because it was too dangerous.
If true, Miguel ignored the order and the move resulted in him leg-dropping a female fan, Khyati Shah, and slamming her head against the stage. According to Shah's lawyer, she may have suffered a serious brain injury and is awaiting a diagnosis by doctor's before determining whether or not to pursue a lawsuit.
The singer addressed the incident in an interview last week, telling BBC Radio 1Xtra he was glad the young woman was ok.
