Here's How Oprah Made $12 Million From One Tweet
Oprah Winfrey is getting her bread in more ways than one. The mogul and Weight Watchers spokesperson sent the weight loss company's stock price surging this week after tweeting that she's lost 26 pounds on the program, all while eating carbs:
According to MarketWatch, the company's shares increased more than 16 percent after Winfrey shared the tweet and accompanying clip of her new ad for Weight Watchers. Since she owns roughly 6 million shares, or 10 percent of its stock, she banked $12 million. Not bad for 140 characters!
Winfrey's involvement with the 50-year-old company has been interesting to those keeping an eye on Weight Watchers stock price. Following a tough year, the company's stock rallied exponentially after Oprah announced last October she was buying a stake and would also be the program's newest spokesperson, following Jennifer Hudson and Jessica Simpson.
Looks like "the Oprah effect" is as powerful as ever.
