Box Office: Goosebumps Leads With $23.5 Million
Goosebumps topped the box office this weekend, edging The Martian out of the number-one spot and beating three other new releases for the honor. Based on the bestselling book series by R.L. Stine and starring Jack Black, Goosebumps opened to $23.5 million.
The Martian came in a close second with $21.5 million, bringing its domestic total to $143.8 million in three weeks of release. Steven Spielberg’s Bridge of Spies debuted to $15.4 million, for a third place finish.
Guillermo del Toro’s horror film, Crimson Peak, and Hotel Transylvania 2 rounded out the top five, earning $12.9 million and $12.5 million, respectively.
Next week, Halloween horror kicks into high gear with Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension, Bradley Cooper's Burnt goes for Oscar prospects and we'll see if Meryl Streep's Suffragette is as offensive as its marketing materials.
