J. Drew to Headline Music Matters Showcase
BET Music Matters shut down 2013 in a big way with an all-star showcase that featured Bobby V and some of the year's fastest rising stars, including Austin Brown, Ro James, Mateo and Adrian Marcel.
2014 will be just as big.
Beginning Jan. 14, the talent showcase returns, kicking off with The Sheards star J. Drew headlining at S.O.B.'s in New York City.
The up-and-coming singer/producer (and son of Bishop J. Drew Sheard and venerable gospel singer Karen Clark-Sheard) has not only recently become the focus of a major talking point — his choice to pursue a career as a secular musician — but also, his dream of becoming a superstar singer took a significant leap forward last year when he signed to Live TMG.
Joining him on the bill for Jan. 14 is the stylish singer TSoul, whose hits like "Best of Me" have helped him become one of soul music's rising stars; singer/songwriter/producer Trumaine Lamar; and, you guessed it, a few surprise guests.
The show kicks off at 8 p.m. with DJ Lyve on the tables and master of ceremonies Buttahman getting the place warmed up. Admission is free but space is limited, so get there early and don't forget your ID. It's 21 and over.
