Prince’s Estate Hosting ‘Purple Rain’ Virtual Watch Party For COVID-19 Relief Efforts
Prince’s estate is hosting a three-day livestream on YouTube, which will include a screening of Prince and the Revolution: Live film.
The concert was originally filmed during the New York stop of Prince’s Purple Rain tour at the Carrier Dome in 1985, and released on home video that same year, according to Variety. It later went out of print until the footage was included on a reissue of Purple Rain deluxe edition back in 2017, but this marks the first time that concert has been digitally made available.
For those interested, the livestream will only be viewable on Prince’s official YouTube channel. The streaming event will kick off with a Q&A session with Revolution drummer Bobby Z on Thursday (May 14). The actual live stream begins on Friday (May 14) and lasts until 11:59pm on Sunday (May 17).
Proceeds from the streaming event go towards the World Health Organization’s (WHO) COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund.
