Colin Kaepernick refusing to stand for the national anthem last week has sparked an ongoing national debate, with everyone from his fellow NFL players to celebrities agreeing, disagreeing or at least understanding the San Francisco 49ers quarterback's stance against violence and race in America.

But one person you wouldn't expect to show Kaepernick the cold shoulder through it all is his own mother.

Yet, that's exactly what's happening, as the 49ers's QB's white birth mom, Heidi Russo, took to Twitter to say that her son is shaming the country and their family by sitting during the national anthem.

Unreal ... you can't make this stuff up.

Russo, who gave birth to Kaepernick at 19 before giving him up for adoption, proceeded to tell her son that he should find a different form of protest.

Needless to say, Russo was dragged to hell on social media for criticizing her son, especially considering that she gave him up for adoption. But even then, she had a response ready.

Kaepernick — whose biological father is Black — has turned down Russo's repeated requests to meet him in the past.

“It’s not really a respect thing,” Kaepernick told ESPN in 2013, as reported by the New York Post. “It’s just — [my adopted family in Wisconsin is] my family. That’s it.”

As of Wednesday morning, Kaepernick hasn't responded to Russo's tweets.

On Sunday, two days after making his silent protest during a 49ers preseason game, Kaepernick explained why he didn't stand for the national anthem.

"This country stands for freedom, liberty, justice for all — and it's not happening for all right now," Kaepernick told the media, as reported by NBC. 

He added to his explanation about the stance by touching on the rash of police brutality incidents against African-Americans in recent months.

"This is because I'm seeing things happen to people that don't have a voice, people that don't have a platform to talk and have their voices heard and effect change," he continued. "So I'm in a position where I can do that, and I'm going to do that for people that can't."
