Akon Made A Shocking Revelation About Puerto Rico's Power Problem
Akon is making some very eye-opening claims about Puerto Rico and its reported uninterest in his help.
The singer told TMZ that he presented a program through his Akon Lighting Africa program in an effort to help restore power to the hurricane-ravished country. Apparently, he was rejected.
“We actually presented a program for Puerto Rico and we got rejected,” he told the celebs website. “We have the solution for Puerto Rico…. and we could’ve had power back in 30 days. And they rejected us.”
The “Right Now” singer also noted that if the Trump administration actually cared about the people living on the island, and approved his plan, power to a majority of Puerto Rico could have been restored in a month – five months before it actually was.
“It’s politics, propaganda, and special interests,” he says. “They didn’t care about the people – if that was the case, they would have allowed us to go in and provide the solution.”
Currently, power has been restored to 83 percent of PR, but officials are still unsatisfied that it’s taken this long and a lot the island still does not have power.
Akon is no stranger to providing power to areas in need. As previously mentioned, he’s the co-founder of Akon Lighting Africa and has brought back electricity to over 14 African countries since the organization was formed in almost four years ago.
