Pharrell: "Speechless" Over Oscar Nomination
Pharrell is now an Oscar-nominee and the honor has left the Virginia native "speechless," he told the Associated Press yesterday (Jan .17).
Skateboard P was understandably shocked and excited to earn a nod in the "Original Music" category for his upbeat single "Happy" from the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack. "Man, I am over the moon," he said, but couldn't remember what he was doing when the Oscar news broke. "Man, I'm sorry, I don't know."
Even though the 40-year-old musician was at a loss for words, his year in music is something worth talking about. P basically ran 2013, being featured on and co-writing mega singles "Blurred Lines" and "Get Lucky."
The work earned him seven Grammy nominations, and while music's biggest night is just over a week away, the very idea of being nominated at the March 2 Academy Awards ceremony is nothing short of surreal. "I used to stare at the TV as a child watching your actors and favorite actresses take it home," he recalled of watching the Oscars. "That's where Jack Nicholson stands or the guy that I look up to majorly, Wes Anderson. That's where his work is considered. I cannot believe we get to go."
