Don’t look now, but the neo-Nazis are coming to Capitol Hill.
You read it right — the neo-Nazis are coming to Washington D.C. Only this time the white supremacist organization isn’t coming to Washington dressed in the typical Nazi regalia, or branding swastikas and chanting despicable slogans calling for “white power.”
Instead, these racist wolves come dressed in sheeps' clothing. They are coming garbed in three-piece suits and armed with what little power of persuasion and influence that they might be able to wield over our nation’s legislators. Preposterous you say? Not according to a recent report printed in the press.

According to the U.S. News & World Report, John Bowles of the American Nazi Party has registered as a lobbyist with the Clerk of the House to be a lobbyist. Bowles has a long and sordid history of Nazi activity, including running as a Baltimore convention delegate for the Republican Party in 2004. It should also be noted that, according to Bowles, he once ran for president under the Nationalist Socialist Movement’s ticket in 2004. If the name Nationalist Socialist Movement rings a bell, it should. This is the same white supremacist organization that marched in Sanford, Florida, in the wake of the tragic killing of Trayvon Martin.
According to Bowles’s registration form, he mainly plans on lobbying on political rights and ballot access laws. He also has listed that he plans to lobby for or against laws affecting accounting, agriculture, clean air and water, civil rights, health issues, the Constitution, immigration, manufacturing and retirement.
What I find interesting is that in this day, when America has become increasingly tolerable to the multicultural mosaic that truly is the fabric of this country, in a time when we have an African-American president and attorney general, Bowles, an avowed white supremacist, feels confident enough to register as a lobbyist. The racial hostility among a small but vocal segment of the white population, as well as some of incredibly racist rhetoric that was spewed by some prominent GOP presidential primary candidates, as well as some extreme elements of the Tea Party, has emboldened Bowles, who sees an opportunity to shape public policy to suit his warped and racist vision of the world.
While I find it hard to believe that any self-respecting politician would ever meet with Bowles and his ilk to discuss legislation of any sort, I do know that we, as people of color and good will, must work to ensure that whatever politician that is stupid enough to meet with Bowles should feel the full repercussion of our political wrath as we vote their butts out of public office.
