Officer Resigns After Posting Racist Meme Depicting White Girl Being Drowned Over Her Crush on a 'Negro Boy'
After posting a racist meme to Facebook which resulted in public outcry, the assistant chief of the Estherwood Police Department in Louisiana officially resigned, reported KADN.
On Sunday, former officer Wayne Welsh shared a meme that shows a mother pushing her daughter face down into a bathtub filled with water with the caption, “When your daughter’s first crush is a little Negro boy.”
The post, as well as Welsh's profile, was screenshotted and tweeted by @Freeyourmindkid
Once the post went viral, people from Louisiana and around the country called for Welsh to be fired
Upon seeing the public outrage, Welsh appeared to double down on his post
Hours later, Welsh offered some form of an apology on his Facebook page, which is now private.
“Well, I posted something on Facebook that made a lot of people mad,” he wrote. “Well, I’m sorry for what happen. Ya have a blessed day.”
However, his apology did not change the mind of Estherwood Police Chief Ernest Villejoin, who asked for Welsh's resignation.
“When I found out about it, I couldn’t believe I had to call him. I called him at work and asked him what the hell is going on,” Police Chief Villejoin told KADN. "I got him out yesterday. I suspended him and I was going to take the phone away and he was not allowed to get on Facebook in the unit."

In an interview with KADN, Chief Villejoin claimed Welsh did not make the post to intentionally offend
“I know Wayne didn’t do this on purpose. He didn’t do this to offend anybody. I apologize to anybody that it offended, believe me,” said Villejoin.
