Dame Dash Has a Very Specific Idea for a Roc-A-Fella Biopic
Considering Dame Dash has been involved with establishing the legacy of Roc-A-Fella Records from the beginning, it only makes sense that, when it comes a retelling of the making of the label, he has a very specific approach in mind and would want to be personally involved.
While the co-founder of the historic label has spoken on the subject in the past, a recent interview with Hip Hop Motivation proves that he's as adamant as ever about retelling stories from the past two decades and is interested in giving the beloved record label the official biopic treatment — if it is done correctly. However, according to Dash himself, the movie rendition as it manifests will be far from what fans may be expecting.
During the recent sit-down, the former Roc-A-Fella boss talked about how he wouldn't want to follow the safe or expected route to recall the milestone moments that the label was founded on top of.
"There’s a lot that people didn’t see, and that would be the part I’d be showing," he shared. "So you don’t know what I’m going to show you. Why would I just make a re-creation of what everyone saw? I want to make things that no one knew. I want to attack it at a way that no one would attack it. It'll probably be done over and over again, but if I do it from my perspective, it probably won't be the one that every one is thinking. I won't do it unless it's something interesting."
After making that valid point, he shared that the idea for the movie is still developing, especially considering the wealth of material they could touch on in the film.
"There's so many different stories to tell," he added. "There's some things that aren't meant to be talked about, but there are things that have been overlooked. There were so many different situations. Every artist was a movie within itself."
Considering Roc-A-Fella's extensive artist roster and catalog list, which features the likes of Jay Z, Kanye West, Cam'Ron, Beanie Sigel and more, Dash certainly has a point. There's a lot of ground to cover and no one would tell it quite like he would.
