Look: This Maryland Teacher Was Arrested After Sexually Assaulting a Student
On Monday, a high school teacher in Prince George’s County, Maryland, was arrested after soliciting sex with one of his students.
Doney Olivieri, 66, faces charges of second-degree assault and soliciting sex from a minor. The DuVal High School foreign language teacher allegedly assaulted a 16-year-old male student and sent inappropriate text messages to another student, according to the arrest report.
The unidentified 16-year-old was interviewed by police on Saturday. While giving a statement, the student alleged that Olivieri sexually assaulted him and also “squeezed him on the chest and asked him for a kiss in the classroom,” police said.
After the September assault, Olivieri asked another student in the class for the victim’s number, however, the student gave his own number to Olivieri instead. The teacher then texted explicit messages to the student, thinking he was speaking with the 16-year-old victim.
When Olivieri was interviewed, he admitted to asking for sexual favors with the teen via text, police said.
The Prince George’s County school system released a statement that said they were aware of the teacher’s arrest and said he has been placed on administrative leave.
On Tuesday, Olivieri was released on bail. When reporters asked him to comment on the allegations, Olivieri said he had no comment and only stated, “I didn’t touch any student at all.”
This is not the first arrest of a faculty member in the school system for inappropriately behaving with a minor.
School system records indicate that over 250 employees are on paid administrative leave on allegations of inappropriate conduct, abuse or neglect.
One of the most noted cases was that of a former volunteer at Judge Sylvania W. Woods Elementary School who was arrested on child pornography charges. Police said that case involved at least 17 victims as young as 9 years old on school grounds and during the school day.
