Floyd Mayweather Jr. Made an Easy $220 Million From Pacquiao Fight
The grand totals are in...and the numbers are staggering.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. will make a final total purse between $220 million and $230 million, stemming from his May 2 victory over Manny Pacquiao, ESPN is reporting. Using the 60-40 split platform, Pacquiao could wind up earning upwards of $150 million in total.
To put it in perspective, Mayweather will earn at least $220 million for 36 minutes in the ring — that's roughly equivalent to LeBron James's career earnings and nearly as much as Tim Duncan has made throughout his 18-year NBA career.
Although the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight fizzled out, the match generated close to $600 million in revenue, equaling the most-lucrative boxing bout of all time.
ESPN reports that Mayweather has generated more than $1.3 billion in 14 pay-per-view bouts.
Watch Mayweather discuss the mega fight and more during The Best of Genius Talks, airing on BET Friday, July 3 at 3:30 p.m. ET.
