Women's History Month: Halle Berry Is An Undeniable Force In Hollywood
Award-winning actress Halle Berry has been lighting up the big screen for more than three decades. Over time, her passion for the art of storytelling has made her an undeniable force in Hollywood and brought her accolades few others in her profession have seen. In March of 2002, the Ohio native won the Academy Award for best actress for her role in the 2001 American drama, Monster's Ball. She is the first and only Black woman to receive the honor.
In an industry where women of color, particularly Black women, are often typecast, Berry has played roles as varied as the profession itself. From a crack addict in Jungle Fever, her first film role, to Cat Woman, to actress and singer Dorothy Dandridge, Berry has made her mark and has the awards and recognition to prove it.
Though her career in Tinsel Town has primarily focused on her acting abilities, the mom of two is also the owner of a production company, 606 Films, which launched in 2014. Last year, the Revlon spokesmodel produced and made her directorial debut in Bruised, a Netflix drama she also starred in. Through 606 Films, Berry plans to amplify women of color in leading roles in front of and behind the camera.
