Dallas Austin Steps Into New Role at Def Jam

Grammy Award-winning producer Dallas Austin is named senior vice president of A&R at Island Records.

Dallas Austin, one of the most coveted music producers in the industry, is always looking for his next creative outlet and it looks like he might have landed his biggest project yet as senior vice president of A&R at Island Records. Def Jam announced Austin’s new role at the label earlier today.

Austin commented on his new role in statement (as reported by RapRadar) saying, "I am truly honored to be working with the most cutting-edge and creative artists in the business."

"I am inspired and excited every day by this amazing and diverse roster and by the leadership and vision of Barry Weiss, Steve Bartels and the IDJ team. I look forward to discovering new talent and continuing to build on Island Records’ storied history," he continued.

"Island Records is fortunate that such a coveted creative force is working with the company and its artists, bringing his experience and expertise to Island at this exciting time in the company’s history. The work he has just done on new Island artist Nikki Williams is nothing short of stunning,” said CEO Barry Weiss in regards to Def Jam’s newest addition.

The Grammy winning producer has worked with many artists throughout the years including Michael Jackson, Madonna and TLC. Austin is also known for his culturally aware music such as TLC’s "Unpretty" and "Damaged."
