Underground Luxury Showcases B.o.B in a New Light

Grand Hustle rapper explains why fans will love his new LP.

Artistic reinvention is nothing new among musicians. However, there has been much talk surrounding B.o.B.'s recent switch from the conscious hip hop that many once associated him with to the trendy club and trap sounds that he's adopted. While, for many artists, this change is used as a marketing ploy, B.o.B. claims this is his reintroduction to the world as his authentic self.

"For the past few years, I've spent a lot of my life in the club and just being a 24-year-old," he told BET.com. "So, those are the results that are yielded. In the past, I've had to walk that line and now I can just be unedited."

He's come a long way since rapping about airplanes. The six-time Grammy award-nominated emcee is gearing up to release his third studio album, Underground Luxury, just in time for the holidays.

Partnering with the folks at Hennessy V.S., the rapper attended a private dinner at Atlanta's STK steakhouse, where he shared album snippets and further explained the inspiration behind his newfound artistic freedom.

While this newly uncensored sound may take many by surprise, the Grand Hustle signee ensures his fans that his years as a commercial artist hasn't diluted the quality of his music. "Underground Luxury is actually what I wanted to do when I recorded Strange Clouds [his second album], and I finally accomplished it," he said.

The theme perhaps is best explained through the LP's 17th track, "Nobody Told Me," where B.o.B. spits about the false association of happiness with material possessions. "The theme," he said, "is taking what you have, which can be deemed as nothing, and making it luxurious. That's the story of my childhood growing up."

The album also features its fair share of club bangers and potential chart-topping smashes, including the Chris Brown-assisted "Throwback," the catchy "Fly MuthaF*cka," and the singles he's dropped so far, "Ready (feat. Future)" and "Headband (feat. 2 Chainz)."

Underground Luxury is slated for a Dec. 17 release.
