Urbanworld Film Festival Announces This Year's Winners
The 2015 Urbanworld Film Festival drew to a close on Sunday, and now we know which films the jury decided stood out from the rest. At an awards brunch hosted by actor Gbenga Akinnagbe and lifestyle expert Tai Beauchamp at Tribeca Grill Loft in New York, the winners of this year's festival, which included 80-plus films, were revealed.
The Best Screenplay Award went to Y Los Hipsters Que, written by Johanna Baez. The young talent was awarded $5,000 by BET Networks, the founding sponsor of Urbanworld. Best Feature Documentary went to We Like It Like That - The Story of Latin Boogaloo, directed by Matthew Ramirez Warren. Pocha, directed by Michael Dwyer, won Best Narrative Feature (U.S. Cinema) while Somewhere in the Middle, directed by Lanre Olabisi, took the Audience Award.
