The 2021 Soul Train Awards was an unforgettable night celebrating the best up-and-coming artists in R&B and soul music. The annual ceremony was packed with mind-blowing performances, hilarious audience moments, award speeches that left us speechless, and special guest appearances.
As some may know, several of rap’s pioneers have graced the iconic soul stage and have continued to do so throughout the years. 21 Savage gets quizzed on the R&B and soul genre
Hosts Tisha Campbell and Tichina Arnold were surprised to see Grammy-nominated artist 21 Savage in the building given that folks have been dancing down the soul train line well before the rapper was born. The “Bank Account” emcee narrowly held his own after hilariously being grilled by the longtime hosts.
Yung Bleu takes home “Best New Artist”
Rapper Yung Bleu showed up for hip hop and his hometown of Mobile, Alabama after winning the 2021 Soul Train Award for “Best New Artist” presented by actress Paula Patton. During his acceptance speech, the rapper gave gratitude towards being a part of a historic event as he reflected on watching the show as a young child to accepting an award on the iconic stage.
Ja Rule joins “Lady of Soul” honoree Ashanti for a nostalgic performance
Hip Hop and R&B reunited on the Soul Train Awards stage after Ashanti brought out Ja Rule for a performance of their banger “Always On Time.” Ashanti accepted the “Lady of Soul” award and following a beautiful speech, the Grammy-award-winning singer gave an unforgettable performance of a medley of her classic hits.
