Laila! Reveals Her Dad Yasiin Bey’s Reaction To Her Early Attempts With Music
Laila! confirmed that Yasiin Bey (formally known as Mos Def) is her father.
During a recent interview with Complex, the rising star confirmed the longstanding rumor and revealed what her dad said when she started making music.
“Yes, he is my dad, y’all. The rumors are true,” Laila! Laughed. “I kind of just always been my own artist in a way, and that’s a cool thing because I feel like as a kid whenever we would jam sesh and vibe out, me and him, I always had my own style, I always had my own thing going on. And he’s always just been like, ‘Okay kid, I see you!’”
Shortly after the interview was published, the Brooklyn singer shared the interview on her Instagram Stories and wrote, "lmaooooooo dad the rumors are true @yasiinbey."
During a past interview with “Way Up with Angela Yee,” she spoke about her upbringing and revealed how supportive her parents have been during her musical journey. "I'm so blessed because I've had parents and family and a support system, but especially my parents, they've always been so supportive of everything that I've wanted to do," she said. "They never question what I want to do. My mom, my dad, you guys have always just been like, 'Okay, that's what she's gonna do. That's Laila!' And I feel like that's always made me feel like I can take on the world, or I can show the world who I am because I've always had that in my life... I've always just felt so incredibly supported."
The 18-year-old also announced dropping her first full-length project in September. She has been making waves in the music industry by writing and producing her own music in her bedroom since she was 16. Her debut hit single, “Like That!” went viral on TikTok last year, and her latest viral song, “Not My Problem,” has been receiving loads of positive feedback from fans.
