Update: Wu-Tang Clan's Millionaire Buyer Wants to Bail Out Bobby Shmurda
UPDATE: Martin Shkreli was arrested Thursday on securities fraud charges relating to his former hedge fund.
The 32-year-old pharmaceutical entrepreneur became known as “the most hated man in America” for raising the price of an AIDS drug from $13.50 to $750 per pill. ________________________________________________________________________________________________
PREVIOUS: The pharmaceutical executive who paid millions for Wu-Tang Clan’s final album found another random way to spend his money. Martin Shkreli told Hip Hop DX that he wants to bail Bobby Shmurda out of jail.
20-year-old Shmurda has been denied bail numerous times, yet Shkreli may be his saving grace. “Forget whether you think he’s guilty or not, the guy should not be sitting in jail right now. It’s insane,” he said.”
As a fellow Brooklyn native, Shkreli has a soft spot for Shmurda. He thinks the the rapper deserves a fair trial, doesn’t have “good lawyers” and is being hung “out to dry” by Epic Records.
Shkreli said he'll speak with the record label this week and if all goes according to plan, Shmurda will be free once again. “I’ll show up with $2 million bail money no f**king problem,” Shkreli boasted. “He’s not going to flee the country. I’m not going to lose anything. I’m going to try to make that happen.”
Shmurda was arrested last December on charges involving drugs, guns and conspiracy to commit murder. Prosecutors allege that he belonged to a Brooklyn gang that wreaked havoc on the community.
