The latest flurry of activity was ignited after Twitter user @sshandinx shared a screenshot from an article that claimed that Beethoven was Black earlier this week.

The Concordia wrote an article about this very same theory in 2015 titled “Beethoven May Have Been Black,” and Twitter users brought the article up again on the timeline to support the claims. The article argued the German composer was “very likely a Black man” and that everything we know about him may have been whitewashed. The article also alleged that Beethoven was the son of Johann Van, a white German man, and Maria Magdalena Keverich, a Moorish woman. 

“Beethoven being black was not the plot twist I expected this year,” one Twitter user wrote in response to the discovery.

“Beethoven was black? Say lesssss,” a second person chimed along with a group of people vibing and dancing to the street to the tune of “Für Elise.”

“Me bumping to Beethoven now that I know he’s one of us,” a third added along with a clip of Lebron James doing some serious headbanging to Beethoven’s “Fifth Symphony.”
