Halle Berry Talks Embracing Her Age and Menopause
Halle Berry is embracing everything her 50s have to offer.
In a no-holds barred article for Women’s Health, the Oscar-winning actress discussed why she feels empowered at the age of 56 and how age-old stereotypes about women continue to be a hurdle for all generations.
Berry shared that a safe space is key for women to have an honest conversation about antiquated social norms. “Community is the entrée into understanding. We're all going through it. And we learn from one another when we talk about it, when we become curious, and when we share with each other what we're going through.” She added, “We educate each other and we give each other ideas. We understand how to manage things better.”
The actress also addressed menopause and being at peace with where she is on her journey. She told the outlet, "The most important thing about owning your sexuality as a woman is accepting the station you're at—and embracing that. And I say that because I'm smack dab in the middle of menopause."
Part of her process is recognizing and tearing down toxic norms. "I am challenging everything I thought I knew about menopause. Things like: "Your life is over." "You are disposable." "Society no longer has a place for you." "You should retire." "You should pack it up."'
For the star, this is prime time, and she is living her best life. “I'm my best self now that I reached 56 years old. I have the most to offer. I have zero blanks to give anymore. I'm solidly in my womanhood. I finally realize what I have to say is valuable, even if no one else agrees”, she explained.
