Judge Steps Down in Trayvon Martin Shooting Case
The judge presiding over the shooting case of Trayvon Martin has removed herself after George Zimmerman’s attorney said she had a possible conflict of interest.
Florida Circuit Judge Jessica Recksiedler disqualified herself from the position Wednesday because of a potential conflict relating to her husband, who works with Mark NeJeme, the Orlando attorney first approached by Zimmerman’s family to represent the 28-year-old.
NeJeme declined the offer and referred the family to Mark O’Mara, who is currently representing the neighborhood watch volunteer.
Judge Kenneth M. Lester Jr. will preside in Recksiedler’s place.
Zimmerman remains jailed and is charged with second-degree murder for the Feb. 26 shooting where he said he shot Martin in self-defense.
