The sitcom Sanford and Son, starring legendary comedian Redd Foxx, premieres on NBC. The show chronicled the daily misadventures of Fred Sanford (played by Foxx), a widowed junk dealer known for his bitter sarcasm, and his son in Los Angeles. It would be popular with audiences and ran for a total of six seasons.
