The sentence was handed down to 40-year-old Hardy, a onetime Brooklyn drug-dealer, and hit-man accomplice Aaron “Ebay” Granton.
Neither showed remorse in court, and Granton nodded off in the room packed with victims' relatives, as one family member read a statement, reports the New York Post. Epiphany Baum, whose father, Tyrone, was murdered by Granton, called the convicted killer a “f**king b***h” for refusing eye contact and falling asleep.
Darryl Baum, a former bodyguard for Mike Tyson, was murdered at Hardy’s order in 2000. Sister Zakiyah Baum had scathing words for trigger man Granton. “I feel you are an incredibly dangerous, selfish, vicious, disloyal and insecure soul who killed because it empowered you.”
While Hardy and Granton were spared the death penalty, life sentences are never easy, noted Judge Frederic Block. “In this particular case, I can't think of a case where it's more justified,” added Block.
Hardy, who has been diagnosed with schizophrenia, maintains innocence, although prosecutors say one of the killings was ordered out of retaliation for his brother's murder. Hardy ran the Brookyln-based Cash Money Brothers gang, and was engaged to Kimmy Blanco more than a decade ago.
He has been behind bars for several years, and was recently deemed mentally capable to stand trial.
