Donald Trump Jr. Was A Guest On ‘The View’ And Whoopi Goldberg Put Him In His Place
Donald Trump Jr. appeared on The View earlier today (November 7) and it was as controversial as many thought it’d be.
Alongside girlfriend Kimberly Guilfoyle, the president’s son got into it with the show’s co-hosts quickly. Perhaps getting the most visceral reaction from audience members (and folks on Twitter) was when Don Jr claimed Joy Behar once wore blackface. He brought it up after a discussion brewed about Donald Trump’s racist comments about Mexican people and his Access Hollywood tape.
“We’ve all done things that we regret,” Trump Jr said. “I mean, if we’re talking about bringing the discourse down: Joy, you’ve worn blackface. Whoopi, you’ve said that Roman Polanski [didn’t commit] ‘rape-rape’ when he raped a child. So, let’s talk about serious things.”
Behar promptly denied the blackface allegation with Whoopi Goldberg then jumping in to defend her.
“Being Black, I recognize blackface. This I can say: I know it when I see it,” she said. “Now that you’ve broken this piece of ice, because I guess this is the fight you wanted, are you questioning my character? I didn’t question anybody, I simply said that when you’re taking about your father taking more heat than anyone else [as president], that is not so.”
For those keeping score, Behar dressed as an African queen when she was 29 and used darker makeup. Conservatives have tried to say she was in “blackface.”
Donald Trump Jr. also complained that his father has been treated worse than any president in history. Goldberg reminded him of how Obama was treated, especially by Sen. Mitch McConnell who vowed to make him a “one-term president.” See the heated exchange below:
Another exchange that grabbed attention was when Meghan McCain posed a pretty direct question to Don Jr., asking, "You and your family have hurt a lot of people. Does all of this make you feel good?"
“I don’t think any of that makes me feel good,” Trump said before pivoting to justifying why he supports his father’s behavior. “But I do think that we got into this because we wanted to do what’s right for America.”
Of course, once Twitter was done with their popcorn, their weighed in and the whole app got out of hand. See some of the reaction below.
